THE BYRON Bay Cricket Club picked up the winning points by defeating Mullumbimby Brunswick in the third round of the 2016–17 Coastal League at Lofts Oval last weekend.

The win was underpinned by an all-round performance by Matt Irwin who backed up his half-century with the bat (54 runs) by collecting five wickets for 42 off five overs.

‘He had a real good day out,’ according to club president Greg ‘Bazza’ Daniels.

Byron Bay capitalised on winning the toss and batted well from the start. Both openers (Joe Beckers 25 and Simon McCarthy 17) achieved decent scores.

Chris Zygmunt failed at first drop collecting a duck but then the middle order fired for the Byron XI.

Daren Wright joined Matt and went on to top score with 58 in a 90-run partnership.
