EMERGENCY services are searching for a woman who vanished at a Byron Bay beach after wading into the water at midnight Feb 7, searching for a lost bag.
Police said they were called to Belongil Beach after passers-by saw the woman disappear into the water.
It is understood the woman went into the water looking for a backpack but failed to return.

She has been described as aged in her 20s with long dark hair.
Backed by Marine Rescue boats and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, police began searching the beach and nearby waters but were unable to find the woman.
The search was called off early yesterday morning, but police said they would continue to make inquiries.
