BYRON SHIRE residents can now cast their vote in the upcoming council elections, with pre-polling stations opening yesterday.

Byron Shire voters can cast their vote at:

  • The Byron Bay Community Centre, at 69 Jonson Street, open Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • The Mullumbimy Civic Centre at 55 Dalley Street, open Monday to Saturday: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Both of these venues are fully wheelchair accessible.

Byron Shire residents can also vote at the Ballina Region Returning Officer’s office, 1/3-5 Clark Street, Ballina. The office is open Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; (Friday 09 Sep: 8:30 am to 6:00 pm); Saturday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

But forget Ballina if you are disabled: There is no accessible parking, no accessible toilet and the path has lips and steps.

Because there is no absentee voting for local government elections, voters must either cast a pre-poll vote or vote on Election Day – Saturday, 10 September.

Postal voting is also available for those who will be away and cannot attend a pre-poll voting centre or vote within the LGA on election day. Postal voting application forms are available at www.votensw.info.
