FROM VoB KWIMABB: Byron Bay Woman Killed in Fatal Bus Crash at Talofa

Voice of Byron and KWIMABB regular, Esma Raisch, sent us this dramatic news clipping about about a fatal 1947 bus crash near Talofa. The cause was brake failure. 

The Byron Bay fatality was Mrs H Warne of Byron Bay, who died from a fractured skull and internal injuries shortly after admission to Byron Hospital, Bangalow.               

The article stated other Byron Bay people injured included:

  • Kevin Connor, 33, of Leycester Street, lacerations to the skull, concussion, shock.
  • Elizabeth Boyd, 66, severe concussion.
  • Susanna Boyd, 68, concussion, shock.
  • Railee Richards, 7, fractured arm.
  • George Nethery, 65, fractured ribs.
  • Alan Munro, 55, lacerated skull.
  • Doris Munro, 44, small lacerated head would.
  • Mrs V Wright, scalp wound, injured back.
  • Shirley Wright, 9, minor abrasions.
  • Barbara Warne, 18, perforated wound to chest, near lung.
  • Clem Warne, 3, injury to left eye, abrasions, shock.
  • Lexie Bridger, 15, compression to chest.
  • Diane Pearson, 10, minor abrasions.
