FROM VoB Facebook: “Keep Our Rail Corridor for Locals”

  • Post category:Byron Bay
Ray Boots, a Bay local who has the best interests of Byron Bay at heart.

Voice of Byron regular Ray Boots, alerts us of an important meeting Monday 15th May at 9.30 am…

Ray says, “Hi everyone, well game on, our Land and Environment court battle starts on Monday at the intersection of Butler and Burns Streets at 9.30.

“We will have a Commissioner, all experts and us. Feel free to come along, and help support the cause by just being there.

“We are going to Sydney for the rest of the case, Tuesday and Wednesday, (decision made.)

“Our whole fight has stemmed from the original plan we had for the Bay, trying to find a long term traffic plan, we came up with the Kendal St on to Byron St, (being a designated road) across Butler St onto the rail Corridor and all the way to Cemetery Rd, with turn of to Streets.

“We then acquired the study that was done by the State Government, in conjunction with State Rail, the 2001 EIS study had 8 different routes to consider which would be the best.

“This is when the Train was still on the tracks don’t forget – the cheapest, least amount of impact on the environment.

“Guess which came up trumps, surprise surprise? The Rail corridor!

“We could not believe that this Study by State Government is the same as ours. They spent over $400,000, and that’s in 2001.

“Everything has been designed, and engineered, roundabouts etc, with 4 lanes.

“At the end of the day we want what is best for the Bay, trying to maintain what we already have. The corridor is one of the biggest assets the Bay has.

“It has to stay with the community. Utilised properly it can all work – Walking and Bike path, 2 lane bypass, maintain a corridor for future rail, parking, beautification.

“We don’t want to see the corridor UP FOR SALE.”

Heard a snippit on TV re massive stamp duty $$$s increase & here it is … excerpt: Sydney Morning Herald 13 May 2017 by Sean Nicolls – Stamp duty hits record highs amid Sydney housing affordability crisis: The Sydney property market re stamp duty – to a record high in the first quarter of 2017. $1.98 billion in Stamp Duty poured into NSW Gov coffers between January & March – $315 million increase on the first quarter of last financial year. Now, just a teensy bit of that sure would pay for our Casino to Tweed (yes, Tweed City, not just Murwillumbah in our fast growing population Northern Region, the fastest growing area of NSW outside Sydney) now wouldn’t it! We could all hop on our train service, to wherever & for whatever we wanted to for! A bike track would be a winner too for all the bikies who have the physical attributes & time to ride a bike! Wow! Oh drats – I think I got mixed up with Peter Pan wonders! Oh well, they were good thoughts anyway. No, seriously, I mean it is a Nobrainer – Lismore City & NO TRAIN! We & NO TRAIN – a plane will not get me to Kempsey!! How about a little reduction in politicians lunch money & retirement $$$$$$$s?! Byyeee,Jillian Spring
