NORTH BYRON Parklands will remain the home of both Splendour In The Grass and Falls Festival through to 2019.

The location’s trial period for hosting both events was set to expire at the end of the year, and now the NSW Department Of Planning & Environment’s recommendation of a 20-month extension for the trial has been officially approved by an independent Planning Assessment Commission.

For punters, the good news means that the Byron edition of Falls Festival 2017/2018 and 2018/2019, as well as Splendour 2018 and 2019 now have a secure home, at least for now.

In a statement North Byron Parklands revealed it will now get back to working on its application to become a permanent location for both festivals.

“I’m also very excited to announce that a substantial land swap has now been formalised as part of this modification approval,” said North Byron Parklands General Manager Mat Morris.

“This will see approximately 25 hectares of ecologically significant land added to the Billinudgel Nature Reserve. We now look forward to finalising our plans to become a permanent, world class sustainable venue.”

In their recommendation last month the NSW Department Of Planning & Environment said that while continuing to hold Falls and Splendour at the site in years to come would cause “additional disturbance” on the site, it ultimately concluded “these impacts are temporary and reversible… and the cumulative impacts on ecology are negligible”.
