Police Officers Charged: Northern Region

TWO POLICE officers have been charged after an incident near Lismore in April.

About 1.30 pm on Wednesday 13 April 2016, an eight-year-old boy was allegedly left in the rear pod of a police caged vehicle at Coraki Police Station, for a period of about 50 minutes.

The boy had been taken into custody over an alleged malicious damage offence.

After being released, the boy was examined by Ambulance Paramedics, and found to be uninjured.

An internal investigation into the incident has commenced.

Two male senior constables, attached to the Northern Region, were served with future court attendance notices for neglect of duty and leave child in motor vehicle causing emotional distress.

They are expected to appear Lismore Local Court on Tuesday 22 November 2016.

Both officers are currently on restricted workplace duties.
