Telephone scammers posing as Australian Taxation Office officers have sparked a warning from Scamwatch, with some victims having already lost more than $100,000.

Police say they are investigating a number of frauds reported over the past month, in which people received calls claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has signed a $36.6 million deal to buy APN News & Media’s Australian regional newspaper business, which includes The Byron Shire News and The Northern Star.

News Corp, already holds a stake of almost 15 per cent in APN, which means shareholder approval would also be required for what would be deemed a related-party transaction.

Unvotable: Secret Deal Means Neither of this Disgusting, Corrupt Pair Deserve Your Vote

There is a powerful prima facie case that points to Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten doing a deal not to raise each other’s corrupt past during the election, as well as the corrupt and criminal conduct of their respective political parties.

The obvious reason for the deal to conceal the corruption during the election is that any battle between each other based on corruption would decrease their votes and increase the votes for the minor parties and independents. It is disgusting that two leaders and two parties would do a deal to downplay the corruption issue but it is very obvious that they have done the deal.

AS the federal election campaign trail heats up, the funding promises are being dangled left, right and centre but Byron seems to have become the ‘Forgotten Bay’.

Byron Shire Council Mayor Simon Richardson said, “you could be forgiven for thinking that the Byron Shire had been excised from the Richmond electorate.”

Crystal Castle “Dreamer” Mortgages Property to Buy World’s Largest Amethyst Geode

THE “managing dreamer” of the Crystal Castle in the Byron hinterland has mortgaged his property to buy what could be two of the world’s largest crystals.

Naren King said he acquired the massive stones for the attraction’s 30th anniversary when a Uruguayan farmer, with whom he had a long working relationship, discovered a 5.5m tall smoky quartz geode last year in the north of the South American country.

Will Byron Shire Ban Private Landholders Renting Camping Spots via YouCamp?

Shoalhaven Council is issuing cease-and-desist orders to local farmers who use YouCamp to rent camping spaces on their property. This raises the question: Will Byron Shire Council do the same?

Farmers who want to rent campsites out to the public are facing legal action from Shoalhaven City Council.

A NEW film has begun shooting on the North Coast this week at a cane field off Ross Lane, Lennox Head.

Scarlett, a supernatural thriller with a $2.7 million budget, will shoot over five weeks at several locations including Lennox, Mullumbimby, Murwillumbah, Byron Bay and a property outside Bangalow.
