BYRON SHIRE Council will be evaluating the impact of changes to parking time limits in Brunswick Heads for 12 months from early 2018.

The changes to time limits are designed to improve the flow of traffic and parking turnover in the town.

“Byron Shire Council has decided to collect detailed parking information from Brunswick Heads over 12 months rather than the six month period it originally intended, to ensure it has relevant information and data that spans an entire year,” Acting General Manager, Mark Arnold said.

“It’s hoped the changes to the parking times will see an increase in the available spaces in the CBD which will be good for businesses, especially during busy holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter” he said.

“Council will be using technology, including number plate recognition, to find out where cars are from and this will give a good indication about the number of visitors from Queensland and other parts of the Northern Rivers using the Brunswick Heads CBD compared to locals,” Mr Arnold said.

At the end of 12 months staff will prepare a report for Council, evaluating the success of the time limit changes.

The findings in the report will then allow Council to consider whether any other strategies maybe required for the management of parking and traffic in Brunswick Heads.
