October 1st 2019 marks 30 years since my brother Greg Light died on his motorbike in the Simpson Desert, in 1989.

When the Police came to tell our family what had happened we were crushed – as were so many locals who loved and respected him.

As the years pass and the grief subsides, I am left with wonderful memories of him and stories I can tell my daughter Amy (now she is old enough).

He was my younger brother with whom I shared so many great experiences that will stay with me forever and I like to remember him for his love of life and adventure, energy, confidence, his care for his friends and mates, and his family.

I wish he could have met his sister-in-law, Chiho and his niece, Amy but in some way, I think he has.

I wanted to remind his many friends from the bay that it is thirty years since he left us but also that he remains in our memories and hearts, and we are better for it.

Hi Ric, condolences to you and the extended family, certainly not forgotten. I was a student of Greg’s when I was in primary school and he was also the school swim coach. He was a great mentor to me and others including in passing on some of his karate philosophy.
How old was Greg when he passed?

Ric not sure if you remember the Charles family from Byron my name is Pauline (bee Charles) , I travelled the bus from Byron to Mullumbimby with Greg who was extremely popular at school and on the bus as a great local guy from Byron , in that time frame his close friends that I remember were bill parsons and Hugh fydler , but he never allow us local girls from Byron not to feel that we all had a connection he always went out of his way to make sure that he got us a seatt for our trip , I was emotionally effected by his death was hard to deal with but I never thought that it still is a sad part of my life after things that I have experienced in my life in the last 30 years but I just want you to know that I will never forget him . Sending my love 💕

I was great friends with Greg’s sister, Susie. Spent many weekends with the family at Lighthouse Rd and the boys always were so much fun. Caught up with Susie around 2006. Was saddened to hear of her passing.
