AFTER FIVE days in a coma on life support, a Byron Bay woman faces amputation of both her hands and all ten of her toes.
Shelley Hill, a Medibank Private suicide hotline worker, contracted a virulent strain on malaria while working as a volunteer helping elephants in Cambodia.
Close friend Mel Wilson has joined several of Shelley’s close friends to set up an online fundraiser to help with Shelley’s medical costs and support her while she recovers.

Mel said her friend was a “giving and fun-loving” person who had long dreamed of taking the trip to Cambodia to help the elephants, which she had been doing as part of the Elephant Valley Project in Mondulkiri, eastern Cambodia.
It has so far raised $40,000.
“If we can raise a year’s salary for her then she can just focus on getting better and work it out from her,” Ms Wilson said.
