A RECENT Australian Financial Review article implying the Bluesfest site is up for sale has been found to be a complete beat-up.

Written by AFR.com real estate writer Su-Kin Tan, the article leads with “Opening up: 214 acres of new land in Tyagarah, home of the Byron Bay Bluesfest,” implying the 214 acres up for sale is the Bluesfest venue.

The very next paragraph describes Tyagarah as being in “Sydney’s north coast.”

Byron Shire locals will be shaking their heads… Tan couldn’t be further from the truth.

She then goes on to say “the landholding at 29 Buckleys Road, currently zoned rural with a permit for 450 tourists – mainly for the annual Bluesfest – is awaiting a rural land use settlement and the NSW Department of Planning’s approval to be used for residential development.

At Voice of Byron we aren’t really sure what a permit for 450 tourists actually means. But whatever it does mean, it doesn’t threaten Bluesfest in any way, shape or form.

Bluesfest director Peter Noble said yesterday “The property concerned is located around 4 kilometres from the Bluesfest site.”

“Our site is owned by the Bluesfest group of companies, and has a permanent approval to operate the festival.”

Tan’s bodgy Fin Review article has been picked up verbatim by a number of real estate websites.
