FROM FACEBOOK: What’s Been Going on at the Byron Bay Lighthouse?

  • Post category:Byron Bay

VOICE of BYRON regular, Melissa Darnley shared Cape Byron Lighthouse Friends and Volunteers‘s post which reveals some very interesting action going on in the old Generator Room at the Byron Bay Lighthouse.

“In March 2018 the small team of Cape Byron Lighthouse Vollies, capably led by NPWS Tweed Byron Education Coordinator Lee Middleton, and the awesomely tenacious Vollie Buff Hungerland, will be able to reveal the displays that have been designed, created and manufactured for our NORTH ROOM ( formally the old Generator Room).

“The theme for this NEVER BEFORE opened to the public room is…. “Lighthouse Keeping: A Partnership” as we focus on the daily lives of some of our wonderful past Lightkeepers and their families.

“It has been a very long, hard slog by Lee and the team to collect and verify some of our scant resources and photographs from Cape Byron Lighthouse precinct that have been spread far and wide since opening in 1901 until de-manning in 1989.

“We are so appreciative of the interviews and time given by some of the past Lightkeepers and their family members to help make this as accurate as we can.

“We will be forever searching for more information, pictures and artifacts… so if anyone has a small piece of ‘past treasure’ from Cape Byron that they feel may be useful for our displays of ‘Life at The Cape’ please let us know by messaging us via Facebook or emailing Attention Lee Middleton, npws.byroncoast@environment.nsw.gov.au
