BYRON SHIRE Councillor Basil Cameron has been elected as Byron Shire Council Deputy Mayor for the next 12 months.

In an uncontested vote, Cr Cameron was elected as the Deputy Mayor on in the Council’s 2016 inaugural meeting.

“It’s a great honour to be elected Deputy Mayor,” said Cr Cameron.

“I am grateful for the confidence of my fellow councillors.”

A long time resident of Federal/Goonengerry, Cr Cameron is an active member of the council and has previously served as Deputy Mayor for three terms.

This wealth of experience will enable Cr Cameron to successfully fulfil one of his main duties.

“My main role is to support new councillors as they learn the ropes of office,” he said.

His informed understanding of the procedures of council will ensure current councillors have a guide as they navigate the intricacies of office.

Cr Cameron is a well known advocate for community services, transport, rural issues and the environment.

“A key goal for this term is to see the Council and community work better together to deliver the services and infrastructure that matter.”
