Draft Public Art Strategy to Support All Art Media in Byron Shire

BYRON SHIRE has long been recognised as a home for artists and Council is aiming to ensure this not only continues but that the area grows to be regarded as an arts and cultural capital of northern New South Wales. 

To drive this vision Council’s Public Art Panel has developed a draft Public Art Strategy which is currently on exhibition.

Byron Shire Council Wins $100,000 EPA Grant for a Butt Free Byron Shire

BYRON SHIRE Council’s ‘Smoke Free Byron Beaches’ campaign has just been boosted by a $100,000 grant from the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to promote a new Butt Free Byron Shire initiative.

“This means that Council can build on its important work targeting cigarette butt littering which has proven to be a significant issue on our foreshore and across the Shire,” Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson said.

Bush Burn Offs in Byron Bay Help Restore Heath

FIRE AND Rescue NSW, in partnership with the Rural Fire Service and the National Parks and Wildlife Service undertook prescribed burns on Paterson Hill at Byron Bay, 1.5 km from the town centre, yesterday Tuesday 17 April 2018. 

The burn was undertaken to reduce the fuel load and provide for asset protection from potential wildfire that could occur in the ensuing fire season.

Byron Council Overfull Bin Campaign to Patrol Rubbish Bin Content to Help

BYRON SHIRE residents have a great track record when it comes to recycling but in recent months the drivers of our bin collection trucks have noticed people are getting slack.

Lucy Wilson, Council’s Resource Recovery Education Officer, said landfill bins are often overflowing or contain material that can be recycled or put in the green organic bin.

Tender Awarded to Build Bayshore Drive Roundabout

BYRON SHIRE Council has appointed SEE Civil Pty Ltd to construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Ewingsdale Road, Byron Bay, with works set to commence late April.

The roundabout project is a major piece of infrastructure which has been jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund ($2.6 million) and the Byron Shire Council ($3.1 million), costing $5.7 million.

Sandhills Childcare Centre, Bangalow’s Heritage House Win $575,000 in Grants

Mayor Simon Richardson and Nationals MLC Ben Franklin announced the grants over a cuppa at Heritage House, Bangalow

BYRON SHIRE Mayor Simon Richardson and Nationals MLC Ben Franklin recently announced $320,000 for an extension and refurbishment works at Heritage House in Bangalow, and $255,000 for improved facilities at Sandhills Childcare Centre in Byron Bay.

“Two weeks ago we were announcing over $420,000 for Waterlily Park in Ocean Shores, and now Council is thrilled to learn of the success of two further grant applications through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund,” Mayor Simon Richardson said.

Byron Shire Allocated $1.7 million in Community Infrastructure Grants

DESCRIBED AS an opportunity that is almost too good to be true, the NSW Government has allocated $1.7 million to the Byron Shire to fund community infrastructure projects that will improve the quality of life for residents.

Jodi Frawley, Byron Shire Council’s Grants Coordinator, said the money was available from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund and is exciting news for groups who are prepared to make an application.
