THE third day of the Ocean and Earth NSW junior state surfing titles at Port Macquarie were contested in tricky two-foot peaks.

Joel Paxton (Byron Bay) won his way through to the third round of the Under-18 boys where he will line up today against Sydney surfers Samson Coulter (Balgowlah), Marlon Newling (Avalon) and Max McGuigan (Maroubra).

Finley James (Lennox Head) is also through and will be matched up against Darcy Crump (Avalon) and Zephyr Lerougetel (Merewether) in the third round.

Jack Murray (Lennox Head) was a shock elimination in the second round.

He surfed an exciting heat but fell slightly short of the score required to progress.

This is the sixth year Surfing NSW has combined the event with the NSW school surfing titles.
