BYRON SHIRE Council has issued a warning to dog owners within the Shire.

Council’s Facebook page carries the warning: “An important community reminder to dog owners.

“A recent dog attack has resulted in a conviction.

“Dogs deemed menacing by Council need to be secured on a leash, wearing a muzzle and kept in the control of a responsible adult.

“The maximum penalties for dog-related offences under the Companion Animals Act is a fine of up to $70,000 or a jail term of up to five years.

“For more information call Malcolm Hamilton, Animal Enforcement Officer on 6626 7000.”
