THE BYRON BAY Public School community will be celebrating the school’s 125th year of continuous operation in Byron Bay in September 2017.

Past Principal Geoff Spargo has accepted the role as project manager and will work with a small P&C planning committee to make the arrangements for three functions to celebrate the school’s 125th Anniversary.

The funds raised by the P&C will be used to improve the school playground, complementing the new ten-classroom building the NSW Government will be constructing in 2017.

The new building will replace the demountable classrooms that have provided emergency student accommodation for the last 25 years.

“The celebrations will commence on Friday 15 September at the Byron Bowling Club – a Meet, Bring and Brag event,” Geoff said.

“This is an opportunity for members of our school community to share photographs, media clippings and stories about school-life over the last 25 years.”

The Anniversary’s major event will be the Back to the Bay Walk and Official Opening of the Anniversary celebrations, on Saturday 16 September 2017.

This event will commence with The Walk (a re-enactment of an event that happened 25 years ago at the School’s Centenary).

The Walk will commence at the beachfront and proceed to the school grounds.

The school grounds will be the venue for the official ceremony, classroom displays, an old fashion sports day, modern and old fashion classrooms, student performances (including the Maypole), morning tea and lunch.

The final event, The Wrap Up, will be held at the Byron Bay Services Club, at which past students, parents and community will share stories and lies about their experiences at Byron Bay Public School.

The Byron Bay Public School 125th Anniversary weekend is the school’s major event for 2017 and we need your help to make this celebration a resounding success.
