BYRON BAY is on the list of Northern Rivers towns which will now benefit from faster download speeds when using Telstra-connected mobiles out-and-about.

Telstra area general manager Mike Marom said the boost to the 4G network was due to a significant investment in regional areas across Australia.

“We are committed to regional Australia and will keep investing to make sure all our customers have the best possible experience on Australia’s biggest mobile network,” he said.

Telstra was the first provider to bring 4G mobile services to regional Australia, with a 4G network now covering 98% of the Australian population, with plans to reach 99% by the end of June 2017.

The other areas that received a boost include Ballina, Lismore and Casino.

The boost was thanks to a $191 million investment to make more radio frequency spectrum available to mobile customers.
