THERE was a happy ending for a very young humpback whale which was stranded at Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head yesterday.

ORRCA (Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia) reported on its Facebook page that “lots of wonderful people worked very hard to re-float and release the calf as there was a pod of humpback whales just offshore”.

“ORRCA volunteers and National Parks staff stayed on site until sunset searching several beaches and watching from nearby headlands,” the group reported.

“The whole team is cautiously optimistic that the young calf is successfully reunited with its mum.

“Hopefully a case of misadventure not abandonment.

“Please call the ORRCA hotline 02 9415 3333 if you see any whales or dolphins stranded
