HIGHER SCHOOL Certificate (HSC) high achiever Jessica Buhagiar says respect for Aboriginal culture at Byron Bay High School was major reason for her success.

Ms Buhagiar received a HSC score of 98.3 per cent and tied second place in the biology subject in the state.

She credits the support received at her school as contributing to her success.

“It’s a really inclusive environment for Aboriginal kids at Byron High,” Ms Buhagiar said.

“It came from everyone at the school, the teachers, the principal and peers.

“Everyone was just really caring.”

At Byron Bay High School, 4.4 per cent of the students are Indigenous, a little over the national average of 3.8 per cent
