The two-page advertisement paid for by Byron Shire Councillor KeithHaines

VOICE of BYRON regular, Debby Milgate, found these old clippings from an April 13, 1988 edition of The Byron News, including an advertisement run by Byron Shire Councillor Keith Haines, and authorised by AJ “Bigfoot” Rees

At the time there was a lot of controversy over the Sandhills Estate and much more, and Cr Haines paid for a survey to gauge the views of the Byron Bay townspeople.

Interesting to note that current controversy involving Byron Shire Mayor Simon Richardson isn’t the first time a Council leader has come under fire.

The 1988 Shire President, Oliver Dunne, was under the hammer from sections of the Bay community as well, at the time.

Sorry to hear about the death of another long-time Bayite. Fond memories of Kerry, who was very much like her Dad when we went to school together at Byron Bay. May they all be up there laughing and happy to be together again.
