COMMUNITY LAND at Suffolk Park is now safe from being sold off. It will now be purchased by Council, in a deal done with the NSW Education Department to heavily discount the buy-price from $3 million to just $900,000
The price is well under Council’s original land purchase budget of $1,000,000.
After an intense community-led campaign, the Suffolk Park Community will keep Lot 60, Beech Drive as its park/village green.
“We are absolutely delighted “ said Patsy Brosnan, Vice-President of the Suffolk Park Progress Association.
“Our community’s effort has paid off. Intense lobbying plus the wonderful community rally showed the State Government we have something worth fighting for.
“We must thank Byron Shire Council for purchasing the land with a portion of our allocated, Section 94 contributions, plus Ben Franklin MLC for his community support and continued negotiations with Adrian Piccoli, the Minister for Education.
“I am thrilled to officially declare that we have saved our park!”
