Byron Shire E Zone Submissions Under Review

AFTER EIGHT weeks of discussions with more than 300 people in the Byron Shire about the new Environmental (E) zone review process, Council staff are reviewing 600 submissions received from land owners and members of the public. 

Shannon Burt, Byron Shire Council’s Director Sustainable Environment and Economy, said staff are collating all of the information and feedback from the public about where they think E zones should be applied and reviewing what changes are needed to improve the accuracy of Council’s vegetation and E zone mapping information

Vanpackers ‘Crapping’ in Railway Car Park Byron Bay

Vanpackers are ‘taking over’ the Rails car park in Byron Bay according to local residents and business people. Photo supplied

BYRON BAY residents and business people are ‘crapped off’ by an ‘invasion’ of vanpackers who they say have set up an unofficial campsite on railway land in the centre of the town.

They say the travellers are taking advantage of a Catch 22 that prevents Byron Council rangers taking action against them in the car park adjacent to the Rails Hotel.

No Parking Meters for Bangalow All Year 2018

IN A REVERSAL of its August 2017 resolution, Byron Shire Council has swapped new parking meters for new parking time limits in the Bangalow CBD.

Strong campaigning by Bangalow residents and business owners means that new parking time limits will be introduced in January 2018 and monitored for 12 months, instead of parking meters.

Byron Council Staff Bring Christmas Happiness to Eight Families

EIGHT FAMILIES in the Northern Rivers who have been experiencing tough going this year will be celebrating a merrier Christmas thanks to the generosity of Byron Shire Council staff.

The Salvation Army approached Council’s Records Coordinator, Tracey Dousling two weeks ago asking if she could organise staff to provide a food hamper and several gifts for one family in need.

NSW Government $2.6 million Gift for New Byron Shire Bridges

BYRON SHIRE Council has received the perfect Christmas present from the NSW Government – $2.6million for the replacement of five old bridges. 

The grant from the Fixing Country Roads program has been welcomed by Byron Shire Council’s Acting General Manager, Mark Arnold, who said it was like receiving an unexpected gift from Santa.

Time to Renew or Buy Your Byron Shire Parking E-Permit

With pay parking in Bangalow set to commence on 1 January 2018, Council is reminding all Byron Shire residents to take advantage of the $55 E-Permit available to them.

Council records show that 58 per cent of Bangalow residents already have an E-Permit but if you need to renew or buy a new one, now is a good time, before the holiday rush.

Mr Mayor: “Save Public Parking Along Seven Mile Beach Road”

A PETITION has been launched by a Byron Bay local, directed at the Byron Shire Council Mayor Simon Richardson, and challenging Council’s decision to close Seven Mile Beach Road to the public.

Byron resident Stephen Booth says the petition must have resonated with the community, because there were 300 signatures on board in less than three hours.

Mayor Says Seven Mile Beach Car Parks Lost Only a “Handful of Spaces”

BYRON SHIRE Mayor Simon Richardson says changes to parking at Seven Mile Beach at Broken Head are aimed at stopping illegal camping and protecting the sensitive environment at Seven Mile Beach.

Cr Richardson claims suggestions that this action has been taken to improve the amenity of local residents are baseless, despite a statement by Shannon Burt, Council’s Director of Sustainable Environment and Economy, in which she says there have been discussions with 30 Seven Mile Beach Road residents.

Byron Shire Achievements Exceed Traditional Council Expectations

Byron Shire Council’s General Manager, Ken Gainger, said the 2016/17 Annual Report highlighted the operations of Council which go well beyond the traditional areas of rates, roads and rubbish.

Road reconstruction, recycling, flood recovery and roundabouts were significant projects delivered in the last financial year by Byron Shire Council.
