FROM VoB FACEBOOK: Lollipop Traffic Control a Two-Edged Sword

  • Post category:Byron Bay

Voice of Byron regular, Michael van Kempen, shares his thoughts on Byron Bay, its traffic and parking issues, and the lollipop traffic control system.

Michael says, “Sitting – no, stationary – at the Jonson Street roundabout yesterday morning Jan 4, I looked at the lollipop sign (to allow pedestrians to cross), and the sign read SLOW.

“I wondered how they were going to get the cars to go that fast!

“Reminded of a front page of the Byron News, “Council considers 40 kph limit for CBD”, and again I ask, how are they going to get the traffic moving that fast?

“Also the flaw with the traffic controllers this morning is that they banked up the cars heading into Lawson Street so that a few people could able across, but the roundabout was then blocked for cars heading up Jonson Street to the beach….clever!”
