COMMUNITY MARKETS are a vital, exciting and fascinating part of Byron Shire’s local culture. This weekend we have three beauties!

Saturday:

Bangalow Farmers Market

The Bangalow Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning from 8 – 11, behind the Bangalow Hotel, since 2004.Run by the Byron Farmers’ Market Association.

The Byron Farmers’ Market Association, which manages the markets, believes in ‘authenticity’, where stallholders can only sell what they produce  – no re-selling of products is allowed.

The markets have supplied many happy customers with a fresh, local, healthy food, while supporting local farmers in sustainable agriculture.

It is also a place where people meet, where recipes are swapped, new exotic flavours tried, hints on successful gardening are shared and the weather and local issues are discussed.

For more information, call  Tom Carey 0414 595 169.

Brunswick Heads Market, Memorial Park

The Brunswick Heads Monthly Market is held in the Memorial Park on the first Saturday of each month. The market is located on the riverbank and is within easy walking distance of the cafes and shops.

ByronBay.com gives more details about the Bruns Markets: “From about 7am, the Brunswick markets, located in Memorial Park, come alive with the many artisan stalls, which provide clothing, plants, food, candles, soaps, coffee, and more.

“The products found at the Brunswick Heads Markets are a mix of locally made and imported goods. The delicious hot food is not to be missed. You can also pick up a few fresh groceries.

“Many locals also hold garage sales on market day too, so there are many bargains to be found. Parking is available free of charge throughout the town, which is at easy walking distance from the markets.”

Sunday:

Byron Community Market, Butler Street Reserve

Byron Community Markets are a fanfare of colour and music amidst a myriad of exotic flavours and other products.

Local art and craft work fill the market site – beautiful things made by people using unusual and natural materials sit side by side with colourful imports from Africa and Asia. Within the diversity of over 300 stalls there is something for everyone.

On Sunday September 4 the Band of the Day is Romaniacs and featured buskers are Luke Vasella & Raku O’Gaia.

Each month two local charities collect donations at the entrances to the market, giving a major boost to their fundraising. The charities at the gates this month are Wires and Sugarshine Farm Sanctuary.
