SIXTY TENTS from the Splendour in the Grass site in Byron Bay were salvaged by volunteers from On Track Community Programs (OTCP) and Connecting Home.
People in need of temporary shelter will benefit after the tents have been sorted, cleaned and repacked.
OTCP housing and homelessness manager, Sarah Walker, said people with social issues also faced housing problems dur to a shortage of affordable housing.
FAST FACTS
- OTCP intend to increase their tent retrieval operations at Splendour next year
- Tent retrieval activities also coincided with Homelessness Week and the Homelessness Connect Day.
Good on splendour organisers . Won’t matter what you do it won’t please everyone. I am sure someone is greatful
This was an initiative created by Diana Hartung who runs Greenfest Solutions last Splendour and on top of the collections of tents that the punters had abandoned she employed the homeless to clean up with her team post Splendour and paid them so they could afford to move into the caravan park with their new bedding and shelters, hopefully setting them on the right path. This year Splendour employed all brazilians to clean because it was a few dollars cheaper for them to do so and the cleaning company needed practice before doing the commonwealth games! Such a shame
Where can the tents be pitched affordably ?
