BYRON BAY’S Ruskin and Cowper Streets have been the scene of a spate of burglaries over the past couple of days.
Local resident Paul Young alerted Voice of Byron to the break-ins today, October 26, 2016, citing multiple burglaries along both Ruskin and Cowper Streets.
On Monday night, October 24, one resident woke up with the intruder still in his house, while another Ruskin Street victim, a young woman, was told by police attending her home that the burglar wears a hoodie, gloves and a mask.
They also informed her of a similar incident at a Cowper Street address, where a police forensic crew is currently investigating.
Another Voice of Byron reader who lives off Ruskin Street in Kingsley Lane, was also a victim, rising for an early morning swim only to find the burglar in her lounge room.
“I woke early today to go swimming to find someone standing in my lounge room,” she said.
“I wasn’t fast enough to catch him and he got my away with my wallet, iPhone and iPad. He was going through my jewellery when I disturbed him.
“The police had been chasing him all night.”
The burglar broke through her laundry door with a jemmy bar to gain entry to her home.
“It’s so scary to know someone has been in your house while you’re sleeping.”
“The police who attended after I called them were fantastic,” she said.
Tweed Byron Police Command informed us the incidents are still under investigation.
