Road Reconstruction at Hayters Hill Still On Despite Rain

RECENT WET weather has not stopped the roadworks on Bangalow Road at Hayters Hill where Byron Shire Council crews are rebuilding a 300m section of road.

The work is being carried out on the section of road bordering the Hayters Hill Nature Reserve, a small but important piece of rainforest remnant typical of the Big Scrub which once covered much of the Northern Rivers.

Byron Shire Council’s Manager Works, Tony Nash, said the road at Hayter’s Hill was badly in need of repair and had been patched many times over the years.

“The budget for this project is $733,000 and this not only includes the rebuilding and resurfacing of this stretch of Bangalow Road, but it will also account for the construction of rocks walls, storm water drainage, and kerb and guttering,” Mr Nash said.

“To the average person this sort of work does not sound exciting but for people who use this road every day, the improvements will be welcomed,” he said.

The project, which started on the 16 October, is expected to finish in mid-December, weather permitting.
