ON SUNDAY Dec 18 two male offenders involved in separate incidents were charged with assaulting police at Byron Bay. One officer was kicked in the face and another was kicked in the legs.

Also last Thursday an 18-year-old and a 40-year-old were charged after police were allegedly bitten on the shoulder and hit in the face at Brunswick Heads.

“POLICE will not tolerate this,” is the warning Tweed Byron LAC issued after the assaults.

The LAC spokesman said all of these incidents involved persons who were either intoxicated or suffering from the effects of drugs.

“Police will not tolerate this and will apply a zero tolerance when dealing with this type of behaviour,” he said.

With the festive season approaching extra police will be patrolling the streets of Byron Bay and surrounding areas.

These additional police will include the Public Order and Riot Squad, on hand to assist with any anti-social behaviour.

Any person that assaults police officers should be dealt with in the courts and given the hardest sentences/ fines possible. Our men and women in blue are there to do a job, they are not there to be assaulted! How would any of us feel if we were assaulted in our jobs as tellers, shop assistants or mechanics?
