THE BYRON BAY Memorial Recreation Grounds are once again under threat. Continuing its don’t-care attitude towards any form of memorial to those who gave their lives at war, Council reportedly wants to claim the Rec Grounds for a permaculture farm.

Byron Community Markets will Return to Byron Beachfront in May 2018

THE ICONIC BYRON Community Market will return to its original home on the Byron Bay beachfront from May 2018 to allow for the development of the new Byron Bay bus interchange in the Butler Street Reserve and the construction of the Byron Bay bypass.

The market is one of the most popular monthly markets in the Northern Rivers and the Byron Shire Council and the Byron Community Centre (BCC) are confident that the temporary relocation to the beachfront will be well received by the community.

Sensible Call For Traffic Light Trials in Byron Bay at Christmas

BYRON SHIRE Councillor Jan Hackett has called for traffic light trials to be conducted at the Bayshore Drive/Ewingsdale Road intersection and the Lawson/Jonson Street roundabout.

Jan says, “As we now have increased difficulty seeing traffic leave the town at that point, and the situation constantly becoming worse, trialling traffic lights over the congested summer months to see if they work and gauge community response, seems to me to be a no brainer.

Illegal Camping Still in Byron Council’s Sights

BYRON SHIRE Councillor Michael Lyon will call for  Council staff progress reports regarding illegal camping on Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads beaches.

Cr Lyon will request information as to what “actions that have been taken or are planned to be taken to prevent illegal camping, dumping and other damaging activities at the Belongil sand dunes following the latest clean-up that occurred on October 24” and “actions that have been taken or are planned to be taken to prevent damage to sand dunes at Brunswick Heads.”

Over 500 Trees to be Planted at Tyagarah Airstrip

VEGETATION WORK to be undertaken at Tyagarah airstrip in late November will see more than 500 trees planted near the airfield and 72 trees and shrubs pruned as part of routine maintenance works to make sure the aerodrome is safe for the people who use it.

The works will be done in accordance with an approved Review of Environmental Factors with input from an independent ecologist.
