Byron Music Festivals Under Threat if Redevelopment Rejected

THE NORTH BYRON Parklands, near Byron Bay on the NSW North Coast, is home to two of Australia’s largest music festivals, which attract tens of thousands of music fans and, organisers say, millions of dollars to the region’s economy.

However, a $42 million proposal to create a permanent festival site for up to 50,000 people has raised concerns that the staging of events such as Splendour in the Grass and the Falls Festival harms the environment, creates traffic and transport problems and affects the amenity of locals.

Byron Shire E Zone Submissions Under Review

AFTER EIGHT weeks of discussions with more than 300 people in the Byron Shire about the new Environmental (E) zone review process, Council staff are reviewing 600 submissions received from land owners and members of the public. 

Shannon Burt, Byron Shire Council’s Director Sustainable Environment and Economy, said staff are collating all of the information and feedback from the public about where they think E zones should be applied and reviewing what changes are needed to improve the accuracy of Council’s vegetation and E zone mapping information

FORMER RUGBY League player and 2013 Young Australian of the Year, Corey Payne, is Byron Shire’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2018. 

Corey Payne will be a guest speaker at local Australia Day events which will be held throughout the Byron Shire on 26 January.

Byron Council Thanks All Involved in New Year’s Eve Soul Street “Cracker”

THE RAIN held off, the music was superb and the food was amazing as thousands of people gathered in Jonson Street in Byron Bay to send off 2017 and welcome in the New Year. 

The crowd, estimated to be more than 10,000 people, had a great time, dancing, singing, and watching the cabaret, circus acts and magicians.

HERE FOR its 25th installment, the Falls Festival has become a staple diet for the many punters up and down the east coast of Australia who enjoy listening to quality tunes to bring in their new year.

Returning for its fifth edition at the North Byron Parklands, Falls managed to put in place what has proved thus far to be a well oiled and increasingly lubricated machine (and when I say lubricated, you should read: beers; but more on that later).
