Mullumbimby’s Stuart Street Development Gets Go-Ahead

THE KOHO housing development in Stuart Street, Mullumbimby is set to go ahead.

Byron Shire Council’s legal coordinator, Ralph James, said agreement between Council and the developer had been reached at a compulsory Land and Environment court Conciliation conference this week.

“The development application has gone from ten units and five car parking spaces to eight units and four car parking spaces.  Two of the units will be kept in perpetuity for ‘affordable housing’ as defined under the NSW State Environmental Planning Policy,” he said.

The conciliation conference was held on site on Tuesday 24 January. Presided over by a Commissioner of the court, submissions from a number of objectors were heard.

Mr James said amendments to the original plan and advice by Council’s external experts on the amendments, allowed a way forward for both parties to sign the Conciliation Agreement which will allow the development to go ahead under the new consent conditions.

    This precedent setting decision by council is one of the worst it has made.Same footprint,same loss of amenity and totally unnecessary considering the amount of secondary dwellings being built.This company is not community friendly and has shown an aggressive tendency towards the wishes of the local residents who wish to protect the built environment in Mullum’s Heritage precinct.Disgraceful!
