MORE THAN 50 Mt Warning visitors, including one Brisbane man holidaying in Byron Bay, have had a terrible start to 2017 after they returned to find their car tyres slashed in one of the worst vandalism attacks in the region.

Paul MacKenzie, Brisbane marketing consultant, thought he’d take a self drive tour to check out Mt Warning and the surrounding area.

“Imagine our dismay when we returned to the car to find our tyres slashed,” said Paul.

“Lucky it was only one tyre slashed, so we slapped on the spare and made it home safe back to Byron. Our holiday has been ruined”

Many visitors to Mt Warning returned to the car park only to find their vehicle’s tyres slashed, some cars having all tyres deflated and damaged.

Local police attended the scene, joining a string of tow trucks and support vehicles were sent to assist stricken motorists.

Previous tyre slashings were reported in mid 2016.

The incident resulted in congestion on the roads, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to get through whilst a convoy of tow trucks was scrambled to assist.
