THIS YEAR’S Byron Lighthouse Run turns 10 years old and all funds will go once again to local charity, Crackin’ Cancer.
Crackin’ Cancer is the brainchild of Casper Fittler’s dad, Marshall Fittler, who began the program 15 years ago.
To date, Marshall has raised over $4 million which has all gone to the ongoing fight against cancer. Lismore Base Hospital’s cancer treatment has received most of this, while Marshall has never drawn a cent for his efforts.
His daughter-in-law, Jess Fittler, says Crackin’ Cancer’s goal is to make Lismore Base Hospital Australia’s number one rural cancer treatment centre.
“We’ve managed to get the Lighthouse Run on board two years in a row,” says Jess.
“Any money raised from the run will go to equipment for the oncology unit in Lismore base hospital.”
“We will be donating our time on Sunday 23rd October to raise money, not only to support cancer research, but our efforts are also aimed at making Lismore Base Hospital the largest cancer treatment hospital in regional Australia.”
“This means our rural patients no longer have to travel to big cities and be away from their families during such a difficult time
Voice of Byron readers can support Crackin’ Cancer by entering the Byron Lighthouse Run.
This year’s proceeds will be going towards the Crackin Cancer initiative of a breast prone board for the oncology unit.
Jess says even if you don’t actually participate, your registration money will be helping the cause!
“Thanks in advance for your open hearts and support.”
