BYRON High School’s band came out top of the class at last week’s Murwillumbah Festival of the Performing Arts winning a gold medal in the Under-14’s rock/pop ensembles category.
The band rocked the judges with Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and their instrumental version of Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water.
The win comes after their well-received performance at the school’s Year 7 showcase. Music teacher and band leader Dan Reade praised the students for all their hard work and dedication.
“The kids performed so well on both occasions and deserve our appreciation and praise, as do their parents for encouraging their kids and driving them to and from practices and shows,” Mr Reade said.
“The school is super excited to have a band again and we hope this success will attract more musicians to join and grow the band even further. It’s exciting times for music.”
