Voice of Byron and KWIMABB regular, Dougall Pennefather, shared this brilliant pencil sketch from when the lighthouse was only 7 years old.
Dougall says, “This is a sketch of Cape Byron and the lighthouse (only 7 years old) that my great grandmother Mabel Anne Rose Pennefather drew on the 1st of March, 1908.
“My great grandfather Hugh Claude Pennefather was one of the top Merino wool classers in Australia.

“In the late 1800s and early 1900s he would regularly travel up and down the east coast of Australia on steam ships to various ports before going by rail and then horse and buggy to sheep stations for work.
“Mabel would accompany him on his work trips and, cameras being a rarity, she would sketch just about anything she observed.
“I posted this drawing as it is our lighthouse from a very early perspective.”
