Voice of Byron regular, Debby Milgate, shot us a couple of photos featuring someone’s Byron-style herbal/organic (gluten-free?) attempt to prevent the dreadful stench coming from the Rec Grounds sewage pumping station.
Regular cricket supporters reckon the stench from the building is horrendous and does nothing to improve the ambiance of cricket matches at the Rec Grounds.
Debby thinks the shed is so old it could soon qualify for Heritage Listing.
She says, “I like that there is an effort to ‘improve’ – just not so sure on this one with a weird mix of graffiti and grass!”
Local anti-graffiti campaigner, Paul Waters, calls the pump shed a perfect example of how graffiti should not always be considered urban art.
“To me, it’s the perfect combination of two Byron-style efforts that fail on both counts – odour control and street art,” he says.
“I can’t comment on sewage control, but for appearances’ sake I’d recommend the whole building be painted to get rid of the graffiti.”
“Who is responsible for this unusual attempt at odour control, anyway?”
I walked past yesterday because the mammogram bus is parked nearby.
The smell was rank.
Feel sorry for those who live in the area
