VOICE of BYRON regular, Ian Blair Hamilton, shares some urgently needed thoughts regarding the adoption of traffic lights in Byron Bay, instead of roundabouts.
Ian, a long-term resident of some 45 years, was a valued Letters to the Editor contributor in The Byron News and was part of the Byron Bay Chamber of Commerce Tourist Promotions committee which played a major part in making Byron Bay the place it is today. But that’s another story.
Reflecting opinions previously expressed in Voice of Byron, Ian says, “At the last council meeting, Anny Reid, ex BC town planner made a great point. Instead of another traffic-slowing roundabout at Bayshore Drive (put off until after Christmas rush) why not trial traffic lights?

“They are easy to trial, easy to adjust, easy to measure.
“Everyone who works in the Industrial estate has a vested and daily interest in the best alternative for this intersection, given the utter logjams we are constantly experiencing, trying to get home.

“Perhaps traffic lights won’t work.. but we’ll never know unless they are tried and NOW is an excellent opportunity for council to trial them before making the no-backing-out decision for another $5million roundabout!”
