VOICE of BYRON regular, Maha Al Musa, contributes a spontaneous reflection on how life has changed in Byron Bay, and where it might evolve.
Maha says, “I have lived in Byron and contributed here extensively to the community over the 23 years I’ve been here.
“An independent Childbirth Educator taking my work worldwide – the Byron Spirit – I Birthed and raised 3 kids here – I am leaving in 2 weeks like many many others I know have and I feel the surges of change.

“My boys are now 18 and 21 – They are watching the shifts and at times madness with sadness – the place they call “home”.
“Yes things change, I get that.
“I do want to also remind everyone that there has not really been much acknowledgement of the energetic messiness that is happening to Byron and how this is impacting us al. Those whom have been here a long time will probably understand the sadness and grieving many are feeling from what once was a free, beautiful, loving community style place where people on the whole really cared for and looked out for one another in the good times and in the challenging times.
“There is a sense of displacement that I also believe is underlying the violence and aggression we are seeing as people are trying to come to grips with the big changes occurring.
“No matter which lens we look out from there is a pervading sense that this change is having an emotional impact and in some ways the Land is rumbling and grieving Her losses, gains and movement.
“And many feel it – Love Byron Bay with all my heart.
“Grateful for all I received and gave – all that the Indigenous people showed me.
“The consciousness of this town is was what drew me to it’s nectar – and I hope that despite everything at its essence Byron Bay will always be a meeting place – a birthing place.
“Let’s see what She will Birth in the near future.”
Love to all 💕
