Voice of Byron regular,Zac Lovett, shared this post about Byron Bay Labor’s call for a new skate park in Byron Bay.
Zac says, “Skate parks provide an outlet for people to be active and creative.
“For people that aren’t into mainstream sports, or just love skating as well, a skate park is an incredibly beneficial addition to their community especially in small communities where the more positive outlets young people have, the better.
“In my experience skate parks in small towns get lots of use and are a very worthwhile facility.
“Just as you might want a properly designed and built children’s playground or tennis court or basketball court, we require a well thought out skate park designed in consultation with local skaters and built by a good company.
“Ideally it would be in a good central location and have the Byron style of creativity and artistic expression included into the design.
“Byron Bay has NEEDED a proper skate park for at least the last 20 years.
“Let’s finally make it happen! SIGN THE PETITION HERE
Byron Bay Labor says, “Byron Bay Labor is calling on Council to provide funding to build a skate park in Byron Bay. For too long, local young people have not had access to a quality facility. The closest skate park is located in Suffolk Park, and is considered by many to be well below average.
“Properly funded, a skate park would be not only be used for skating, but designed in a way that it is a piece of artwork for the community. This proud community asset, thoughtfully designed, will make an important addition to the Byron Bay community.
“This idea fits in perfectly with the Byron Bay Masterplan adopted by Council and should be given high priority.
“With rate rises and paid parking, it’s only fair that locals, and especially young locals, benefit positively in a town that is so often over-run by tourists.
“After decades of talk, it’s time to build a skate park in Byron Bay!
