A VICTORIAN camper will appear in court after allegedly assaulting a Byron Shire Council ranger.
Police said the 23-year-old slapped one of the two Byron Shire Council rangers and ripped his shirt during the scuffle at around 7.20 am this morning.
Acting Inspector Chad Deegenaars said the alleged assault came after the tourist became very angry with the rangers over his illegal camp site at Gilmore Crescent, Byron Bay.
The man was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station, where he was issued a court attendance notice.
