Landmark Byron Shire Affordable Housing Decision Means 20% Cheaper Rent and More

A GROUND-BREAKING opportunity to achieve a range of social outcomes for the community through the sale of a vacant block of council-owned land in Mullumbimby was embraced unanimously by Byron Shire Councillors last week.

Mayor Simon Richardson, said the decision to sell Council’s vacant property on Station Street to North Coast Community Housing meant a much better outcome for the Byron Shire because now a mix of housing options would be delivered to better meet the needs of many of the vulnerable people in our community.

NSW Government to Help Council Control Outdoor Advertising on Trailers

CHANGES TO State planning rules for outdoor advertising and signage on trailers from March 1, 2018, will help reduce driver distractions and improve road safety.

The new rules mean that trailers parked in road reserves for advertising purposes may require development consent.

Greens Favour ‘Appropriate’ West Byron Development

LOCAL GREENS parliamentarians have called on the NSW Government to ensure that any development in West Byron is of an appropriate scale.

A recent Echonetdaily article reports they want assurances that any development won’t adversely affect Ewingsdale Road, or negatively impact local wetlands or the Cape Byron Marine Park.
