Police Investigate Death at Byron Bay on Christmas night

Police are investigating the death of a man at Byron Bay.

THE DEATH of a man at a Christmas party in a northern NSW home is being treated as suspicious by police.

Emergency services responded to reports a 28-year-old Ewingsdale man had collapsed about 11.30pm on Monday, but when they arrived at the Byron Bay home they were unable to revive him.

Tourist Tasered by Police at Byron Bay Lighthouse

A TOURIST was tasered by police in Byron Bay after he ran at the patrol car and thrust himself head first into the glass windshield.

The ordeal unfolded when Tweed/Byron police were called out to Byron Bay Lighthouse carpark about 10.55pm last night to reports of a man threatening self harm.

Family-Friendly New Year’s Eve for Byron Bay

THE FOCUS on New Year’s Eve in Byron Bay will be on good, old-fashioned family fun with people of all ages encouraged to celebrate in Jonson Street on 31 December. 

Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson, said the top half of Jonson Street will be closed again and transformed into Soul Street – a pedestrian zone where people will be able to enjoy food and be entertained in a safe, alcohol-free area.

Byron Band In Hearts Wake Wants to Clean Up the World

Byron Bay metalcore band In Hearts Wake have taken a more hands-on approach. To coincide with the release of their fourth album Ark in May they launched We Are Waterborne: An In Hearts Wake Initiative to lead a series of clean-ups along  polluted waterways in Australia.

Instead of in-store album signings, fans were encouraged to join the band at their clean-ups and about 200 people turned out in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Byron Bay to collect 17,400 pieces of rubbish.

Christmas Lights to Switch Off for Good at Terry and Gerry’s

TWENTY-FOUR years of decking their home with a unique display of lights every Christmas will come to an end when Terry and Gerry Bertoli turn off their lights on New Year’s Day 2018.

Thousands of Bay locals and visitors have made the trip to the Bertoli’s Baywood Chase home to view the fruits of the Byron Bay couple’s labour.

Council Working with Sports Groups to Manage Byron Rec Ground

BYRON SHIRE Council will work with local sporting groups and other traditional users of the Byron Bay Recreation (Rec) Ground to develop a Plan of Management for the land on the fringe of the town centre.

Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson, said Councillors and staff had recently met with sporting groups to discuss the future management of the Rec Ground, and it was clear that they wanted sport to be the number one priority.

Council Seeks Partners for South Byron Sewage Vision

DELIVERING SOCIAL and community benefits will be at the top of Council’s agenda in early 2018 when it seeks partnership proposals for the master planning and redevelopment of the former South Byron Sewerage Treatment Plant site in Suffolk Park.

Byron Shire Council Mayor Simon Richardson said Council was piloting a new partnership approach and looking for innovative and visionary thinking from the market.
