New Sunrise Boulevard Traffic Island to Increase Motorist Safety

WORK ON a new median traffic island that will increase safety for motorists using the Sunrise Boulevard/Ewingsdale Road roundabout, will get underway on Wednesday 7 February. 

The works are expected to take around four days to complete and road crews will be diverting traffic during construction on Thursday 8th, Friday 9th and Monday 12th February. Council’s contractor crews will be working from 7am to 5pm on these days.

Byron Parking Campaigner Paul “Macca” McCarthy Blows Up About Revenue Split

BYRON BAY Paid Parking campaigner Paul “Macca” McCartney has come out against a recent Byron Shire Council decision to restrict the town’s share of paid parking revenue to just 50%.

Council’s resolution also includes provision for revenue distribution to be reviewed should other towns in the Shire implement paid parking.

“In March 2018 the small team of Cape Byron Lighthouse Vollies, capably led by NPWS Tweed Byron Education Coordinator Lee Middleton, and the awesomely tenacious Vollie Buff Hungerland, will be able to reveal the displays that have been designed, created and manufactured for our NORTH ROOM ( formally the old Generator Room).

New Byron Shire Community Panel to Build Trust & Faith in Council

BYRON SHIRE Council’s Mayor Simon Richardson said this week that recent feedback from work on Council’s Community Strategic Plan showed people had a general lack of trust and faith in the Council and wanted more community-led decision making.

“Let 2018 be the year when we build genuine bridges with our community. For that to happen there needs to be trust and the first step in this process is the Community Solutions Panel project,” Cr Richardson said.

Free Training & Work Experience for Byron Young People Aged 17 to 24

Applications are still open for a new training and work experience program for 17 to 24 year olds – but you need to get in quick.

The new vocational training and work experience program being run by Byron Shire Council in partnership with Byron Community College has extended its deadline for applications until mid-February.

Pokies to be Removed from Byron’s Beach Hotel

ECHONET Daily’s Paul Bibby brings us landmark news from Byron Bay’s Beach Hotel. The pub is set to become the first licensed venue in the Shire to get rid of its pokies in a bid to reduce problem gambling.

In a move that anti-gambling advocates hope will inspire other local venues, the incoming owners of the hotel have pledged to start shutting down its 15 machines from the moment they officially take over on February 26.

Byron Shire Council Seeks NSW Gov’t Briefing on North Byron Parklands

BYRON SHIRE Council is inviting NSW Department of Planning staff to brief staff and Councillors about the development application (DA) for the permanent use of the North Byron Parklands Cultural Events site for events catering for up to 50,000 patrons.

The DA, which is classed as State Significant Development by the NSW Government, is currently on exhibition for public comment.
