BYRON Bay High School has collaborated with Bay FM to produce a podcast that will be entered in a Radio National Competition.

The students worked with BAYFM production manager William Martin and radio journalist Prue Clark to produce ‘What’s Next’ a podcast that focuses on what will come after the students leave school.

The theme of the 10 minute podcast is My Firsts.

Byron Residential Rates to Jump $44

BYRON Shire Council says it has adopted its $73 million operating budget for 2016/17.

What’s in the bag? General rates will rise as per the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal Home (IPART) rate-pegging determination of 1.8 per cent. For an average residential household, the council says land rates are estimated to rise by about $44.

Rams Outclass Thistles at Lismore

IT WAS another successful trip inland for the Northern Hotel Byron Bay Rams over the weekend taking on fourth place aspirants Lismore Thistles on their home turf.

In the past there have been fiery exchanges between these two teams but this meeting saw plenty of fast, fluid football produced particularly from the Rams.

The Byron Bay Reserves set the pace, with Ben Ahern and Tomas delivering a solid 2-1 win.

1000 Tonnes of Stones Ordered for Byron Adulterers

MALCOLM TURNBULL’S recent Ramadan dinner included amongst his guests mufti Sheikh Shady, well known for his view that “adulterers should be stoned to death.”

Unconfirmed sources from within the Shire indicate that just in case Malcolm Turnbull actually does make it to the position of Prime Minister of Australia, an order of 1000 tonnes of throw-sized stones has been placed with a local quarry.

Angel Destruction Horrifies Local Arts Community

BYRON BAY arts community members are outraged that a sculpture in the Arts and Industrial Estate, Byron Bay, has been destroyed and removed. Stating this action was taken without approval, local artists Benita Martin, Maximus Domulous and Jenny Bannister contacted Voice of Byron about the angel’s destruction.

END OF AN ERA: Maddog Close Their Doors

MADDOG, the iconic surfing label started by John Morgan and shaper Mark Plater, is closing down after 40 years with the final sale continuing until this weekend at the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate.

Changes in the surfing business led to the decision to wind up Maddog but also at play was the original thinking that got the pair into the business.

“Back when we started, surfing was still a counter-cultural thing, and surfers were not the most popular members of the population,” said Mr Morgan.
