Plastic never biodegrades, and with the government is not making any moves to ban plastic bags, so the Byron Mermaids are sewing reusable “boomerang” bags for people to borrow and bring back.

Byron Artist Finalist for NSW Wynne Prize

BYRON Shire artist Robert Ryan has been named as one of this year’s finalist of the Art Gallery of NSW’s Wynne Prize.

The Wynne Prize is awarded annually for “the best landscape painting of Australian scenery in oils or watercolours or for the best example of figure sculpture by Australian artists”.

“Ferris Gump” Marathon Run Reaches Darwin

BYRON Bay’s Ferris Gump has made it to Darwin. After 66 days running the long way from Townsville along the Savannah Way pulling his 50kg trailer, Ferris a.k.a. Byron Bay’s Ben Ferris arrived in Darwin.

His mission was to raise awareness and funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and he will now spend 6 months in Darwin preparing for his next ultra marathon.

WINNING becomes a habit. The Evans Head Bombers, an honest but not outstanding team, have acquired it. Byron Bay’s Red Devils have gone cold turkey on it.

Saturday’s NRRRL clash between the two sides at Stan Payne Oval was a classic example of one being able to find a way to victory and the other unable to grasp it when it was virtually in the palm of their hand.

Studies linking fluoride in water to health issues prompt Australian review which could possibly keep Byron Bay’s water free of fluoride.

Have the health benefits of fluoride in drinking water been overstated?

Byron Bay is one of 19 towns in NSW without fluoride in the water supply. And it might remains that way as Australian health authorities review the case for fluoride in drinking water amid concerns scientific evidence supporting the benefits and risks to people’s health may have shifted.
