Our very own Byron Bay surfing World Champion, Mark “Mono” Stewart has been featured in Grind TV’s prestigious list of 7 of the most inspirational surfers on the planet.

“I’ve been waiting 35 years for this event and finally … wooh!” That was Mono’s comment after winning a gold medal in the ISA World Adaptive Games last September.

A prominent Byron Greens member has broken the party’s silence over the selection, election and subsequent defection of prominent real estate agent Rose Wanchap on Byron Shire Council.

Tom Tabart, a former Byron shire councillor and Byron Greens convenor, has written to Echonetdaily to finally apologise and hopefully put to bed the sorry saga that has plagued the party and the council for four years, resulting in a massive lurch to the right against voters’ intentions.

Australian Marble Championships in Brunswick this Weekend

ARE you a mibster? Then get your cat’s eyes ready, flex your fingers, and get yourself to Brunswick Heads for the Australian Marble Championship on Sunday.

The marble competition is held annually in conjunction with the Old and Gold Festival, but due to the overwhelming popularity of the event, has been moved to the next day, June 12.

National News Ltd Paper Thinks Byron Council “Greens-Led”

THE AUSTRALIAN daily newspaper today (June 9, 2016) published an article claiming Byron Shire Council was "Greens-led". The Australian Brisbane Bureau Chief Geoff Chambers clearly doesn't realise former Greens councillor Rose Wanchap defected to the "Gang of Five" around 12 months ago. Since then Byron Shire Council has voted Conservative on most issues 5-4.

Byron Bay’s Greens-dominated council will today vote on a $9000 “shark-spotting” trial — consisting of two people watching for sharks from an elevated position — in place of drum lines and barriers.

The northern NSW tourist haven has been plagued by an influx of large great white sharks, seen close to surfers and swimmers off local beaches in recent weeks.

Byron Train Turns Sydney Heads

THE 660 series two-car rail motor train which will soon call Byron Bay home is currently turning heads as part of Vivid Festival in Sydney.

Byron Bay Railroad Company Ltd, a not-for-profit enterprise owned by the people behind Elements of Byron Resort, is reinstating a train between Sunrise Beach, just outside Elements of Byron Resort, and the Bay township.

Byron Photographer Finds Byron Bay Fish Hitching Ride in Jellyfish

A small Byron Bay fish is becoming world famous after being photographed swimming inside the bell of a jellyfish only slightly larger than itself.

Byron Bay photographer Tim Samuel spotted the fish while on a free diving trip off the coast of the popular New South Wales town.
