Up-and-coming Byron Bay five-piece Parcels may not yet exactly be household names in Australia, but the Germans and Euros Love them.
It’s not too late for Aussies to get on board, though, because the band are coming back Down Under for a series of headline shows this December and early January, proudly presented by The Music.
The returning locals will start off in their old stomping ground of Byron Bay, at the Great Northern, heading through to shows in Maroochydore (supporting Bullhorn), Sydney (two gigs), Brisbane and — on the other side of December — Melbourne. They’ve also slotted in a year-ending stint at the multi-day Woodford Folk Festival.
The visit’s not just for the heck of it; the band have just put out super-fresh new single Gamesofluck, their fourth single in the two years since they came together and first started turning heads with an ensuing trio of tunes, Myenemy, Another Clock and Herefore. The new song, which deftly trades in deliciously ’80s-style throwback tones and grooves, comes from their impending EP Hideout, due for release in January — and it is damn tasty stuff.

The band’s decision to move halfway around the world has paid massive dividends so far, earning them comparisons with big-name acts such as Daft Punk, Steely Dan and Frank Ocean — big calls, all — and swiftly finding themselves on line-ups at events such as Fusion Festival, MS Dockville Festival, Reeperbahn Festival, Juicy Beats, Calvi On The Rocks, Festival Les Inrocks Paris and Berlin’s Lollapalooza after-party, among several other appearances.
They were picked up by Paris tastemaker label KITSUNE and have ridden that attention to growing recognition across Europe, a place where the exact kind of funk-riddled electro-disco in which Parcels trades is massively popular — so you know there’s definitely something to the growing hype.
