BYRON BAY girl, Dr Sally Watterson, has been helping Local Government New South Wales (LGNSW) gain improved funding for museums and galleries in the state.
Sally recently appeared before a NSW Senate inquiry into state funding and support for museums and galleries state wide.
She and Ms Donna Rygate, who is LGNSW’s Chief Executive Officer, fronted the inquiry to answer questions on LGNSW’s submission to the inquiry.
“LGNSW’s submission supports improvements to the structure, organisation of and funding for NSW museums and galleries for the benefit of the people of NSW,” she said.
Sally also said LGNSW emphasised that any proposed amendments to the existing arts funding system must not increase the burden on local government’s limited resources and capacity.
“Museums and galleries are sectors of the NSW broader cultural landscape and while comments made in [the LGNSW submission] are made in isolation from the rest of the sector, they are at the same time indivisible from it.”
As Senior Policy Officer, Arts and Culture, Sally and Ms Rygate were called to give evidence to the Inquiry which was chaired by The Hon. Robert Borsak.
The outcomes of the inquiry will be released on 4 October 2016.
